The alleged drug kingpin behind “Orange is the New Black” has won a Nigerian senate seat

Prince Buruji Kashamu, a wealthy Nigerian businessman with a checkered past, has surprised many in the southwestern Ogun State by winning a senate seat for president Jonathan’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The PDP lost most of the seats it contested in this weekend’s elections.
But that isn’t the most remarkable thing about Kashamu.

For 17 years he has been wanted in the United States for allegedly acting as the kingpin of a drug smuggling and money laundering ring. It was the same operation that landed American author Piper Kerman in jail for a year and inspired her memoir Orange Is The New Black. Kashamu strenuously denies the charges and claims it’s a case of mistaken identity; he says the US really wants his late brother.
There has been talk at times in Nigeria about extraditing him to the US. But being a strong supporter of the PDP, which has run Nigeria for the past 16 years, the move always seemed unlikely. Although former president Olusegun Obasanjo wanted him kicked out, he never managed it. Now Kashamu is going to sworn in as a senator, making the possibility even more remote.

Kashumu has proved an extremely slippery figure for US authorities, as the Chicago Tribune reported in 2013:
The case has frustrated prosecutors here, in part because they once had Kashamu in their grasp but lost him. English authorities arrested him when he landed there in 1998 and held him for five years during extradition hearings. Ultimately, however, British courts let Kashamu go after ruling that Chicago prosecutors had tainted their eyewitness identification evidence by failing to disclose that one of his co-defendants failed to pick him out of a photo lineup.
Kerman’s 2010 book about her time in jail was adapted into the critically acclaimed Netflix series of the same name. Most of the characters in the TV show are inspired by her experience, but her bosses have not been portrayed as Nigerian. However, Kerman’s book references a Nigerian kingpin known only as “Alaji”:
A little bit of Web research revealed that the man I knew as Alaji was a wealthy and powerful businessman-gangster in Africa, and I could certainly imagine that he might have connections that could make pesky things like extradition treaties go away.

Typically, “Alhaji” is a title used by Nigerian Muslims who have made the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. Kashumu is a Muslim.
The US government’s most recent offer for Kashumu to answer his charges included some helpful travel advice, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:
If the Nigerian politician and businessman who was the alleged kingpin behind that ring wants the case to finally go away, he’ll have to hop on a plane to Chicago, a U.S. Appeals Court has ruled.
And the 7th Circuit was even nice enough to give fugitive Prince Buruji Kashamu a hint where he can find “reasonably priced flights” from Lagos to Chicago

Following the deadly incident last week Friday, the police in Ondo State have recovered N9 million from the six of the fifty armed robbers who raided four banks at Owo last week.

Two police women and four others, including an ASP and seven civilians were killed by the robbers who stormed the banks at about 4pm last Friday. Also shot dead by the robbers were a bank manager and his deputy who reportedly refused to cooperate with them on arrival at the bank
Report had it that the robbers trailed some cash that were deposited in the banks, in view of last Saturday’s elections.
The six robbers were shot dead by policemen who engaged them in a shoot out that lasted for two hours. The two women police and the ASP were shot dead at the police station on arrival by the robbers who destroyed the station with gunshots.

Some vehicles, including that of the DPO of the station, was taken away but later recovered hours later after by the police. 23 assorted fire arms, including 9000rounds of ammunition, 11 dynamites, 100 magazines, ten smoke hand grenade, three steel helments, police berets and uniforms, nine exotic vehicles, were recovered from the robbers.

10 Reasons You Will Choose a Samsung S6 Over Iphone 6

Beginning in two weeks on April 10th, we’re in store for an epic battle of the sixes. Apple’s iPhone 6 burst onto the scene this past September and helped Apple rack up more profit in the holiday quarter than any other company has ever earned in a three-month period. iPhone 6 sales are still going strong according to estimates, but the phone will finally see some real competition next month when the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge hit store shelves.

All three of these phones are fantastic options, but there are a few key features on Samsung’s new handsets that could make iPhone 6 owners a bit jealous. In this post, you’ll find 10 of the most impressive things the Galaxy S6 can do that Apple’s latest iPhone can’t.

1. Fast charging

Apple’s iPhone 6 is pretty quick to charge, especially if you use this terrific trick to speed up your iPhone charging. It’s nowhere near as fast as the Galaxy S6 though, which includes fast-charging technology.

In just 10 minutes, you can add hours of standby time to your Galaxy S6’s battery.

2. Wireless charging

It’s nowhere near as cool as the new wireless charging technology we saw debut at CES 2015, but Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 edge include built-in support for wireless charging. You can also get a free wireless charger with your purchase of the phone if you buy it from Best Buy.

If you want wireless charging on your iPhone 6, you’ll need to use this hack or buy an ugly third-party case.

3. Run more than one app at a time

Apple’s iOS platform supports multitasking, but only one app can be used at a time. With the S6 and S6 edge, you can open two apps side by side and even copy content from one and paste it in the other.

4. Wake a small part of the screen to see notifications

Samsung’s rub-to-wake gesture might be ridiculous, but it’s pretty cool that you can wake the side panel on the Galaxy S6 edge to see notifications without having to unlock or even pick up your phone.

5. See who’s calling without picking up your phone

If you have your Galaxy S6 edge face-down on your desk and one of your favorite contacts calls, the edges will glow with a specific color associated with that contact.

Here’s a GIF of the feature in action:

6. Make mobile payments anywhere

…when Samsung Pay launches.

Apple Pay is a fantastic service that couldn’t be easier to use, but it’s still not available in most stores. Samsung Pay, on the other hand, uses a hybrid technology that’s compatible with newer NFC payment terminals as well as older standard credit card terminals.

Both new Galaxy S phones support Samsung Pay, which will launch later this year.

7. Tracking auto-focus

Samsung’s new camera in the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge is phenomenal, and a few features are of particular interest. One is tracking auto-focus; simply tap on an object and the Galaxy S6’s camera will constantly adjust focus as it moves, or as you move.

The feature works for still photos or while you’re recording a video.

8. Fast-opening camera

If you double-tap the Galaxy S6’s home button even while the phone is asleep, the camera will open and be ready to capture a photo in a lightning-fast 0.7 seconds.

The iPhone 6’s camera is pretty easy to open as well thanks to lock screen and Control Panel shortcuts, but it’s nowhere near as fast as the Galaxy S6.

9. Use your phone as a TV remote

iPhone 6 users can buy third-party accessories if they want to use their handset as a TV remote, or some apps include compatibility with specific set-top boxes. The Galaxy S6, however, packs in infrared blaster that can control just about any device you want.

10. Monitor your heart rate

There are apps that will use the iPhone 6’s rear camera and flash to measure your heart rate, but the dozen or so apps I have tested are slow and often inaccurate. The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge pack a dedicated heart rate monitor that reads your pulse instantly and is very accurate.

PDP loose to APC at the Presidential Villa polling units

In the final result announced at the two polling units at the Presidential Villa Saturday night, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan lost to the All Progressive Congress candidate, General Mohammadu Buhari as he polled a total of 595 votes to General Buhari’s 613 votes.

Bomb Explosion Rocks Enugu during Election

Car where bomb was placed
Bomb explosions in one of the designated polling units in Enugu, early on Saturday morning, has thrown residents, including prospective voters, and Independent National Electoral Commission officials, into panic.

The incident occurred at WTC Primary School Polling Unit 1 in New Layout, where voting is billed to take place in the presidential and national assembly polls.

The bombs, believed to be improvised explosives devices, were concealed in a vehicle which was believed to have been parked near the polling center overnight.

The bombs were placed in a Honda Accord car with Abuja registration number KUJ 971LB.

The first explosion, which is believed to have gone off prematurely, attracted security agents, who quickly cordoned off the area.

Two other unexploded bombs were discovered in the vicinity, and were subsequently defused by the police anti-bomb unit.

Our correspondent, who rushed to the area, witnessed the controlled explosion of the two bombs by the anti-bomb squad at 8.45am and 9.05am.

No casualty was recorded but the incident caused panic among voters and INEC officials who were to participate in the election at the unit.

Our correspondent observed that voters turned back on hearing of the bombs.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dan Bature, who addressed journalists at the venue, said investigations had commenced.

He urged voters to come out and vote, assuring them that their safety was guaranteed.

The police boss said, “Whatever is their motive? We don’t know, whoever is involved we don’t know yet.

“But we can assure you that nobody was injured – everybody is safe and voting will go on.

“I assure all the voters that they are safe.”

Chibok girls are in Gwoza says freed Boko Haram captive

More than 200 girls who were abducted by Boko Haram from government secondary school, Chibok, Borno State, in April 2014 are in Gwoza, The Cable, an online medium, on Wednesday quoted Mbutu Papka, a woman who was recently freed after eight months in the sect’s captivity, to have said.

Papka, who made the revelation to the international centre for investigative reporting, said she was transferred from a poor condition in Mdita to a fairly tolerable facility in Gwoza where the abducted girls were being held.

She said, “In the camp at Gwoza, there were clear demarcations between where people were kept. The Chibok girls, other captives and Boko Haram members and their family members all had their separate areas secured, though the security in the area where the girls are kept is visibly different and much tighter.

“When we got to Gwoza, things changed because there were facilities there and the place was 10 times better than Mdita.

“We had a normal life in Gwoza, except the trauma of living in captivity. Whatever we wanted to eat, they were provided. They would bring water, firewood, etc., and leave them outside. They even provided perfume for anyone who requested for it.”

The 56-year-old woman added that no one was allowed anywhere near the specific location of the abducted girls, which was being guarded round the clock.

Papka was reportedly seized alongside many others when Boko Haram attacked Gwoza on July 4, 2014 and taken to Mdita, a remote village near the notorious Sambisa Forest, bordering Askira Uba and Damboa. She and many others, including children were kept in Mdita for five months before they were taken to Gwoza, where she was held for another three months before being released on March 15.

The woman said the facilities provided for them in Mdita were so poor that some captives died of ill health.

“There was a Redeemed Christian Church of God pastor who was killed during the attack on our village, and his wife was abducted with us. She died at Mdita due to the condition of the place and the death of her husband,” she said.

The pastor’s wife was said to have had diabetes and had been on a special diet, which could not be provided by the insurgents.

Though she said she could not speak for the abducted girls, Papka said she and the other women abducted were neither raped nor assaulted, saying the insurgents lived with their wives and children in the Gwoza camp.

When she was to be released by the sect on March 15, Papka was given a sick two-year-old boy who had been crying uncontrollably. She was driven home on a motorcycle and asked to pay N8, 000, which her family did.

NCC, telecom firms to pay APC N500m Court orders

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the Nigerian Communications Commission and five others to pay the All Progressives Congress N500 million for unlawfully shutting down the party’s presidential campaign fund raising platform.

The order was given by Justice Ibrahim Buba on Tuesday in response to APC’s originating summons on the shutting down of its fund raising platform by the NCC.

Buba said the APC’s position was protected by the constitution with regard to pushing for its fundamental rights once violated.

Apart from NCC, the other alleged debtors are Etisalat, MTN Nigeria Limited, Globacom Limited, Airtel Nigeria Limited and Visafone Communications Limited.

Court Bars Use of Soldiers for Nigerian Election

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, Monday, restrained the federal government from deploying troops for elections henceforth.

Trial judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba also held that "It is unconstitutional for the Federal Government to deploy military for the supervision of election purposes without the approval of the National Assembly."

The judge in his judgment in the suit a House of Representatives member and chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, declared that the deployment of military for election as unconstitutional.

With the judgment, soldiers and military personnel may not be deployed for the March 28 and April 11, 2015 general elections, even though some states had been designated hotbed of violence few days to the polls.

Gbajabiamila, leader of opposition in the House of Representatives, had gone to court, challenging the legality of troops' deployment for election by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Defendants in the suit were President Jonathan, the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Chief of Naval Staff and the Attorney General of the Federation and Justice Minister.

The judge added that a careful perusal and research into all the Nigerian laws would reveal that there was nowhere where it was stated that the President could single-handedly deploy military for elections.

President Obama Speech to Nigerian People

Read the full Speech Below

“Hello. Today, I want to speak directly to you—the people of Nigeria.

Nigeria is a great nation and you can be proud of the progress you’ve made. Together, you won your independence, emerged from military rule, and strengthened democratic institutions. You’ve strived to overcome division and to turn Nigeria’s diversity into a source of strength. You’ve worked hard to improve the lives of your families and to build the largest economy in Africa.

Now you have a historic opportunity to help write the next chapter of Nigeria’s progress—by voting in the upcoming elections. For elections to be credible, they must be free, fair and peaceful. All Nigerians must be able to cast their votes without intimidation or fear.

So I call on all leaders and candidates to make it clear to their supporters that violence has no place in democratic elections—and that they will not incite, support or engage in any kind of violence—before, during, or after the votes are counted. I call on all Nigerians to peacefully express your views and to reject the voices of those who call for violence. And when elections are free and fair, it is the responsibility of all citizens to help keep the peace, no matter who wins.

Successful elections and democratic progress will help Nigeria meet the urgent challenges you face today. Boko Haram—a brutal terrorist group that kills innocent men, women and children—must be stopped. Hundreds of kidnapped children deserve to be returned to their families. Nigerians who have been forced to flee deserve to return to their homes. Boko Haram wants to destroy Nigeria and all that you have worked to build. By casting your ballot, you can help secure your nation’s progress.

I’m told that there is a saying in your country: “to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done”. Today, I urge all Nigerians—from all religions, all ethnic groups, and all regions—to come together and keep Nigeria one. And in this task of advancing the security, prosperity, and human rights of all Nigerians, you will continue to have a friend and partner in the United States of America.

APC and PDP Supporters Clashed in Kaduna

All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, on Monday in Kaduna continued his campaign with a one-million-man rally.

The one-million-man march grounded the state capital as supporters of the former minister took over the major streets in the metropolis.
But the rally later turned violent as APC supporters clashed with supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state.

No death was recorded but some people were reportedly injured.
The APC supporters tore posters and  pulled down billboards  of President Goodluck Jonathan, his running mate, Namadi Sambo as well as that of Governor Mukhtar Yero.

This, according to an eyewitness was in retaliation for the posters and billboards of the APC presidential candidate, Maj-Gen Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), and that of El-Rufai that were allegedly pulled down by PDP supporters in the state capital.

Our correspondent gathered that trouble started when security operatives stopped the march, which took off from the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.
The APC supporters were asked to move from there to Kaduna International Trade Fair Complex on Kaduna – Zaria Expressway.

This did not go down well with the supporters, who were chanting “changi(change), changi (change) dole”, venting their anger on anything in sight that had the label of the ruling party.
Things almost got out of control at the popular NEPA Roundabout when some supporters of the APC allegedly attempted to scale the fence of the Goodluck/Sambo Campaign office but they were met with stiff resistance from the PDP supporters, who were on hand, leading to a free-for-all.
At the time of filing this report, five persons sustained injuries and were currently receiving treatment at the Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital, Kaduna.

The Kaduna State Security Outfit, code-named ‘Operation Yaki’, arrived the scene, dispersed the warring parties and saved the PDP campaign office from being set ablaze.
Kaduna State Police Command’s  Public Relations Officer, Zubairu Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident, saying arrest had been made.

Your Sh*t might fetch you Millions !

Human Feces Under a Microscope
Human feces contains gold and other precious metals that could be worth hundreds of millions of dollars, experts say.

Now the trick is how to retrieve them -- a potential windfall that could also help save the planet.

"The gold we found was at the level of a minimal mineral deposit," said Kathleen Smith, of the US Geological Survey, after her team discovered metals such as platinum, silver and gold in treated waste.

A recent study by another group of experts in the field found that waste from one million Americans could contain as much as $13 million worth of metals.

Finding a way to extract the metals could help the environment by cutting down on the need for mining and reducing unwanted release of metals into the environment.

"If you can get rid of some of the nuisance metals that currently limit how much of these biosolids we can use on fields and forests, and at the same time recover valuable metals and other elements, that's a win-win," said Smith.

"There are metals everywhere -- in your hair care products, detergents, even nanoparticles that are put in socks to prevent bad odors."

More than seven million tons of biosolids come out of US wastewater facilities each year: about half is used as fertilizer on fields and in forests and the other half is incinerated or sent to landfills.

Smith and her team are on a mission to find out exactly what is in our waste.

"We have a two-pronged approach," said Smith. "In one part of the study, we are looking at removing some regulated metals from the biosolids that limit their use for land application.

"In the other part of the project, we're interested in collecting valuable metals that could be sold, including some of the more technologically important metals, such as vanadium and copper that are in cell phones, computers and alloys."

The findings were presented at the 249th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world's largest scientific society, taking place in Denver through Thursday.

Road to Berlin 2015 (UEFA Champions League Quarter Final Draw )

Holders Real Madrid CF face neighbours Club Atlético de Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, while there is also a repeat of the 1987 European Champion Clubs' Cup final.

UEFA Champions League quarter-final draw
Paris Saint-Germain v FC Barcelona – 15/21 April
Club Atlético de Madrid v Real Madrid CF – 14/22 April
FC Porto v FC Bayern München – 15/21 April
AS Monaco FC v Juventus – 14/22 April

Madrid beat Atlético 4-1 in last season's UEFA Champions League final in Lisbon, although it took a last-gasp equaliser from Sergio Ramos to cancel out Diego Godín's first-half opener and take the final into extra time. Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo all scored in the 30 extra minutes to give Madrid a tenth European title.

Madrid and Atlético have played six times already this term in the Spanish Super Cup, Liga and Copa del Rey; Atlético won four of those ties with two draws.

• This will be the sides' third European Cup tie, following their 2-2 aggregate draw in the 1958/59 semi-finals; on that occasion, Madrid prevailed 2-1 in a replay.

Paris and Barcelona met in this season's group stage, Paris triumphing 3-2 at the Parc des Princes but losing 3-1 at the Camp Nou.

• They also faced off in the 2012/13 quarter-finals, Barcelona progressing on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw, and in the 1997 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final, when Barcelona's Ronaldo got the only goal in Rotterdam.

Buhari's Coup of 1983 Destroyed Southwest, Old Bendel - Fayose

Ado Ekiti — Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has castigated the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) and its presidential candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) for seeking the votes of Yorubas and people of Edo and Delta States rather than asking for their forgiveness.

According to the statement by the Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media in Ado Ekiti yesterday, Lere Olayinka said it was disheartening while recounting the kind of inhuman treatment melted to some of the Yoruba leaders during the regime of Buhari in 1985

Some of the Yoruba leaders, according to the statement who tasted the bitter pill from Buhari included late Chief Obafemi Awolowo Awolowo, Chief Adekunle Ajasin, Chief Bisi Onabanjo, Chief Bola Ige, Alhaji Lateef Jakande and the immediate past APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, all of whom championed development and good governance in the Southwest States.

Buhari's coup of 1983 destroyed the Southwest and the old Bendel State (now Edo and Delta) as it put an end to the developmental programmes of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo's Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) government in the Southwest States of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun and Ondo, as well as Bendel State.?

Fayose described Buhari's cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 as the grearest disservice to the Yoruba people in particular, and Nigerians in general.?

If Buhari had not cancelled the metroline project out of vendetta, transportation problems in Lagos would have been solved permanently.?

The metroline project would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. But Buhari cancelled it an even went ahead to pay compensation to the French company that handled it. Buhari's action cost Lagosians over $78 million then," Fayose said.?

?Speaking further, the governor said; "In Yorubaland, we were enjoying free education and free health before Buhari came. Then, all that was needed to go to primary and secondary schools was school uniform. Drugs were free.?

Apart from free education and free health, the Southwest witnessed rapid development. Lagos State University, Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University), Ondo State Polytechnic (now Rufus Giwa Polytechnic), and several other institutions were established.?

As at 1979, Lagos State had no secretariat. Jakande's government built the Alausa Secretariat within four years. Ajasin's government built Alagbaka Secretariat in Akure within four years. Even the Lekki-Epe road on which they are now collecting tolls was constructed by Jakande.?

For all that they did for us in Yorubaland, what did Buhari do to Jakande, Ajasin, Bola Ige and Bisi Onabanjo? He jailed them and Bisi Onabanjo came out of prison with health issues that eventually claimed his life.?

What did Buhari do to reward Awolowo, whose party gave us free education and free health? Awolowo's international passport was seized and he was prevented from travelling abroad for medical treatment. Awolowo died two years after!?

In 1984 that Buhari introduced school fees, thousands of our youths then dropped out of school.?

Therefore, Buhari who truncated the future of many of our people and jailed our leaders who served our land selflessly should be seeking forgiveness from Yoruba people, not votes."

UEFA Round of 16: 3 lesson Learnt FC Barcelona Vs. Man. City

1. The EPL is a great league, but it's lacking truly great teams - Manchester City was England's last chance to put a team into the Champions League quarterfinals. Just like Chelsea and Arsenal though, they failed in their mission, completely beaten by Barcelona. As good as the EPL is -- it's entertaining and competitive -- there's a lack of a any truly powerful teams at the moment. They simply cannot go toe-to-toe with the likes of Barca, Bayern and Real Madrid.

2. City had a good plan, but Messi destroys plans - There was nothing fundamentally wrong with City's tactics, in fact, they worked pretty well in limiting Barca's offensive chances. The problem is, even the best tactics can't account for Lionel Messi. Sometimes he just does something amazing, and such was the case on Wednesday.

3. Barca are beatable, but City wasn't the team to do it - The chances were there in both legs for City, but their defense just wasn't good enough to prevent Barca from generating chances and scoring goals. City had their moments though, and perhaps a better side will be able to breakdown the Spanish giants.

Would you Rock Kylie Jenner Workout Attire?

Have you watched Fifty Shades of Grey, So kindly answer this Question.  Is Fifty Shades of Grey inspiring workout gear now?
Kylie Jenner gave fans a glimpse of her "basic workout attire"on Instagram Wednesday. The barely there bondage-like top and pants may not seem like they are fit for exercise, but if the 17-year-old's social media account is to be believed, she was intending to go for a jog in her sexy ensemble (with a full face of makeup, naturally).

"Yay thank you @reebok for the #Zpump shoes!" she wrote alongside the below pic. "I think I might take on Hollywood Hills now for a run. Gotta take off all this jewelry first #getpumped."

Meet The First Black Japanese to Win Miss Universe Japan

Miss Nagasaki, Ariana Miyamoto, is the first NON-JAPANESE contestant ever to be crowned Miss Universe Japan and will represent Japan in the 2015 Miss Universe pageant.

Ariana was born in Japan to a Japanese mother and African American father. But Ariana is a Japanese citizen, grew up in Japan, and identifies as Japanese. The local media LOVE HER and describe her as a "saishoku kenbi," a woman blessed with both intelligence and beauty. The new Miss Japan holds a 5th degree mastery of Japanese calligraphy.

But not everyone in Japan is happy with her win. Sme people questioning whether a multiracial person can truly represent Japan. According to local media, even she was initially a little wary about entering the pageant because she was "hāfu," the Japanese word used to refer to multiracial or multi-ethnic half-Japanese people. Others call her a COCO-JIN - a derogarory word for a Black person.
